San Gimignano

Hills dotted with villages that have over three thousand years of history…

No matter which way you arrive to San Gimignano, this town stands on top of a hill at over 300 metres above sea level, with all its towers. Today there are 13 of them, but it is said that in the 14th century there were more than seventy, one for every wealthy family, who displayed their economic power in this way.
Not too far away you find Volterra, the ancient city of Etruscan origin which has been conquered by the Romans, Barbarians and Florentine legions more than once over the centuries. Its picturesque old town centre is dotted with churches and museums and has been the film set for Italian and international products many times.
Another undoubtedly charming village is Monteriggioni, famous for its walls that have completely surrounded it since the early thirteenth century, spanning 570 metres, interspersed with 14 towers and two gates, which are still intact today. A section of the walkway on the walls has recently been opened to the public for visits: from here you can take in the Chianti and Val d’Elsa countryside for as far as the eye can see.
These are picturesque itineraries that are convenient for people staying at Villa I Barronci Resort & Spa and are the perfect way to enhance your Tuscan holiday in the Chianti region even further.

Holiday: the whole package
We were with a familiy of 2 adults, one girl 17 and 1 boy 13. We had a super stay at the Villa. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. All the staff is very helpful. Breakfast is extended and for the children (both coeliakie) there were enough gluten free options. The garden is very peaceful, every morning I read my (digital) morning paper with a cup of tea, enyoing the peace and view of the landscape. We had dinner 3 times and it was very tasteful! As located in the Chianti area it is understandable, but don't order a Gin and Tonic!! When you look for quality in a relaxed atmosphere I highly recommend Villa I Barronci! "
